1900's J. F. Stetson Parlor - Larson Brothers
This 1900's J. F. Stetson ( Larson Brothers) parlor guitar is part of the highly coveted and revered stable from Carl and August Larson, brothers who were firmly establishing themselves in Chicago at the leading edge steel-string flat-top design. A real gem of a prewar flat-top, superbly responsive, with a sharp attack, with mellow sustain and charming sparkle.
Body: Spruce top with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides in gloss varnish finish.
Neck: Mahogany with a Ebony fingerboard, 25.5” scale length, 1.78” nut width, 18 frets, pearl dot inlays.
Hardware: Waverly style 3 in line tuning keys, Ebony bridge, Ebony nut.
Cosmetics: This guitar is in good shape. It has light surface scratches on the body, multiple repaired top cracks, a few tiny nicks. The back of the neck is clean, and the frets show minimal wear. The back has buckle rash. Overall, this guitar plays very well and sounds fantastic.
Modifications/etc: Refret was performed, neck reset performed, cracks repaired. The guitar has no serial number. It is impossible to date exactly but the style of tuner and general features suggest the mid/late 1920s.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this instrument with a new set of strings. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable.
