1971 Gibson Les Paul Custom
Summary: With its elegant lines and Ebony/Pearl/Gold aesthetic, the Les Paul Custom (nicknamed The Black Beauty) is easily one of the most iconic and beautiful guitars ever made. It features a body carved out of mahogany, unique among Les Paul models. The resulting dark mid-range tone from the body pairs perfectly with its bright-sounding solid ebony fingerboard. Altogether, it was a pinnacle of guitar craftsmanship, design and tone.
Body: Mahogany with an Ebony finish.
Neck: Mahogany with an Ebony fingerboard, 24.75” scale length, 1 11/16” nut width, pearl block inlays, fully bound, 22 frets.
Pickups/Hardware: Two original humbuckers, waffle back gold tuning keys, 2x volume/2x tone controls/3-way pickup selector, top hat control knobs, original bridge/tailpiece.
Cosmetics: This guitar has wear that is consistent with an instrument from the early ‘70s. It has light surface scratches throughout. The back of the body has light buckle rash. There are a couple chips in the finish on the back of the neck and on the volute (See Photos Please). The frets are in great shape. The gold hardware has aged and tarnished. Overall, this guitar is in great vintage shape and plays fantastic.
Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.
Weight: 10.01 lbs.
Case: This guitar ships in the non-original hard-shell case, professionally packaged, and fully insured.
